Breeding Plan
- Our goal is to acquire, develop and continually upgrade a herd of twenty mother
cows of clearly superior quality, between 1000 and 1100 pounds in weight, that are a
balanced blend of function, conformation, pedigree, color, and horn, and that consistently
produce offspring selling at prices significantly in excess of auction and private treaty
averages. These animals should score 80 or above on the Texas Gold score sheet when rated
by impartial industry experts, and at least 50% of them should rate 90 or above.
- Animals complimentary to our basic herd will be utilized when a market niche exists
where we can profit both financially and genetically, one example being the
breeding of select Butler cows to Emperor to produce progeny that emulate those high
selling animals in the Louisiana Purchase Sale.
- We will use artificial insemination and embryo transfer to acquire superior genetics
when and if economically feasible. Our current, primary focus will be on Emperor genetics,
including natural service with our Emperor son, Dixie Goer, while utilizing other bulls
with traits we deem desirable and that we feel will have wide marketability at superior
prices.
- In our view there are currently few "world class" young bulls that fit our
program. We will work to fill this void with a bull of our own breeding, while monitoring
the efforts of other breeders and continuing to use their superior genetics in our herd.
- We are aware of the importance of marketing in relation to customer recognition of
quality, acceptance of premium pricing, and product desirability. Consequently, we will
work to establish industry recognition as serious, quality breeders, and when our genetic
efforts are successful with our own bulls we will aggressively market through appropriate
methods, including the show circuit, advertising, and maximization of progeny
visibility/quantity in the market place.
